A Friend

Brian Kuyper
Seminary Classmate and Friend

I met Ted right away at the beginning of Seminary. We lived in the same apartment building. He was a great neighbor, classmate and friend. I helped Ted move a picnic table over to his apartment so he could enjoy the outdoors and to put his plants on. I enjoyed the many conversations we had together over the 4 years of Seminary.

This was so shocking to hear the news about his death. My mother-in-law goes to his Uncle and Aunt's church in Beamsville and she called me up right away. She knew Ted and I were classmates and we even dropped him off at his sister's in Vineland once. One of the things that was so shocking was the location of the accident. It was literally a few miles from where my wife and I lived last year on our internship in Jarvis. We know that road well and were just shocked to hear about it.

I will miss Ted's quiet nature. I will miss his smile and his laugh. I will miss all the great conversations we had while at Seminary, not only about school, but about life. We who are left mourn his death. But we trust in the words of Lord's Day 1 from the Heidelberg Catechism: "What is your only comfort in life and in death? That I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ." We take comfort in knowing this was Ted's comfort in life and in death.
